The Submission of the Believer
You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am —John 13:13
Our Lord never insists on having authority over us. He never says, "You will submit to me." No, He leaves us perfectly free to choose— so free, in fact, that we can spit in His face or we can put Him to death, as others have done; and yet He will never say a word. But once His life has been created in me through His redemption, I instantly recognize His right to absolute authority over me. It is a complete and effective domination, in which I acknowledge that "You are worthy, O Lord . . ." ( Revelation 4:11 ). It is simply the unworthiness within me that refuses to bow down or to submit to one who is worthy. When I meet someone who is more holy than myself, and I don’t recognize his worthiness, nor obey his instructions for me, it is a sign of my own unworthiness being revealed. God teaches us by using these people who are a little better than we are; not better intellectually, but more holy. And He continues to do so until we willingly submit. Then the whole attitude of our life is one of obedience to Him.
If our Lord insisted on our obedience, He would simply become a taskmaster and cease to have any real authority. He never insists on obedience, but when we truly see Him we will instantly obey Him. Then He is easily Lord of our life, and we live in adoration of Him from morning till night. The level of my growth in grace is revealed by the way I look at obedience. We should have a much higher view of the word obedience, rescuing it from the mire of the world. Obedience is only possible between people who are equals in their relationship to each other; like the relationship between father and son, not that between master and servant. Jesus showed this relationship by saying, "I and My Father are one" ( John 10:30 ). ". . . Though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered" ( Hebrews 5:8 ). The Son was obedient as our Redeemer, because He was the Son, not in order to become God’s Son.

A MESSAGE FROM COMMANDING CHAPLAIN 3RD FLEET US NAVY JEFF SAVILLE
Contract or Covenant?
If you're married, or if you're thinking of getting married someday,
This thought is for you.
Most people who get married think of marriage as a contract. But is
This what a marriage relationship really is?
In a contract, one person promises to do A, and the second person
Promises to do B.
(Example: "I'll paint your house, you pay me $1000.00) If one
Person fails to do their part, the second person is released from having
To do their part.
(You didn't paint my house, I don't owe you the $1000.00")
Seems clear enough.
A covenant is a different kind of deal.
In a covenant, one person promises to do A, and will follow through on
That REGARDLESS of whether the second person comes through on their
Part. Naturally, the first person is hoping/expecting the second person
Will deliver, but the promise they freely, knowingly made is
Unconditional.
(I'll paint your house, and yes I do really want to get paid,
But even if you don't pay me, I'll finish the job with a
Smile)
The unspoken contract most people make at their wedding ceremony is,
"This is a 50/50 proposition:
I will try to make you happy, and I expect you to make me happy.
But if you don't make me happy, then I'm outta here." Problem is, no person can make somebody else happy all the time.
We all disappoint the people love--we disappoint ourselves too.
Sometimes we go through long seasons of not having our hopes fulfilled.
Sometimes we hurt each other deeply.
So then what? Is that the time to look for the next Suzy Q who will
Make me happy today?
That is a recipe for repeated cycles of broken contracts (serial
Marriages).
If you view your wedding vows as a freely taken covenant, you are
Saying, "This is a 100/100 deal.
I know there will be days/months/seasons when you don't make me happy,
But that's okay.
No person can. I am in charge of my own happiness anyway.
When the times come that you only deliver your 30%, I'll still have
Plenty of commitment left over to fill the gap.
And when (not if) I let you down, I can trust you'll still have plenty
Left for the two of us."
WOW!
What a difference! Do you think a couple making covenantal vows to each
Other has more of a solid basis for their marriage?
What a confidence builder!
Marriage was God's idea, and he wants to bless your relationship.
Covenantal commitments aren't always easy to keep, but God is in the
Helping business.
Ask for God's help in your marriage,
Apply wisdom from the scriptures
And the blessings will be yours!
Comments/questions welcomed and invited.
Forward if you like; always happy to add new folks to my distro list.
Many Blessings,

PRAYER REQUEST FROM PW TINA MUELLAR ON HER MISSION TO AFRICA
Subject: Prayer Request: Leaving for Africa On Saturday, July 19th! YAY!
Aloha Kakou,
Thank you all so much for all the prayers, support, phone calls, emails and chats.
We are leaving on Saturday, July 19th for Jinja, Uganda and will be back on August 5th. (See attached prayer card one of our pastors made)
On Monday night, we had a great last bible study with the team and our mission builders. We prayed over each person including our "staying with the stuff" folks. Pastor Bob Haag shared with us what our "Be Attitudes" should be on the mission field!
Be loving [John 13:34-35]
Be rejoicing [Phil 4:4]
Be considerate [Rom 12:10]
Be hospitable [Rom 12:13]
Be humble [Rom 12:4-8]
Be prayerful [Rom 12:12, 1Thes 5:17]
And of course Pastor Chuck Smith's proverb "Blessed are the flexible for they will not be broken."
Everything with the team is going well. We all have our assignments and have been busy preparing. I have been working with a few others on putting together Children's ministry projects. I chose four projects and we have them all packed in ziplocks so anyone who will be doing something can grab a ziplock and have an instant VBS for 20 kids.
We have also been blessed with many donations of items to take with us clothes, slippers, toys, etc.
The team has been preparing for this since April meeting every Monday night as a home fellowship. Eating, praying, reading the word, having communion and being educated on missions, travel, and ministry items. Over the last few months we have done many fund raisers to help support the goals to the team. The body of Christ has been very generous, we have been able to purchase all necessary items (water systems, supplies, misc items needed) and cover the in-country team expenses.
I just got my last round of shots.....pin cushion arms! I needed them for both this trip and for the University of Hawaii to enter graduate school when I return from Africa.
Not sure how much or little I will have access to Internet on the road BUT when I get back I will send a wrap up and pictures.
We fly from HNL on July 19th to SFO then into London and on to Entebbe, Uganda arriving on July 21. Please pray for all of us to make the flights, for our baggage, and everyone's health for the trip.
