Founders' Corner

I write about everything that helps US veterans, the organizations that support them, and US small businesses. And I propose to my readers that they also become involved in our important cause. Towards that end, I also write about HirePatriots' exclusive Cause Marketing strategy to promote the businesses that support us. And I introduce ways that patriots and veterans can earn an income from home or office through HirePatriots.com. HirePatriots.com is a program of Patriotic Hearts 501c3. We encourage US residents to post Day Job for their local veterans. And we allow any business to post their jobs and search our resumes for free too.

Badger Base Camp Recruiting Events:

Guide Candidates and aspiring Outdoor Educators, On March 10th and 11th of 2012, Badger Wilderness Guides will be hosting an apprenticeship weekend. The focus of this weekend is to evaluate candidates in the disciplines of general mountaineering and orienteering.
Another Apprenticeship Weekend will be held on April 21st and 22nd (Earth Day). The focus of this weekend will be Backcountry Paddling and Low Impact Camping.
The goal of an apprenticeship weekend is for the BWG staff and outfitters who are part of the Badger Base Camp Network to evaluate participants as potential outdoor educators, trip leaders and guides. There will be more detail to follow in the next 5 days, but this is an excellent opportunity for individuals to meet other industry professionals for the purpose of future employment.
All participants will receive an evaluation on their performance, a letter of recommendation for top placing candidates, and the potential for immediate placement for those who qualify.
These events serve as a recruiting tool for outfitters from all over the country and abroad who are part of the Badger Base Camp Network. Space is limited, so be sure to let us know as soon as possible if you will be attending.
All Training and Technical Equipment for March Session and Boats, Paddles, PFD’s, and Tents. Water, coffee, hot chocolate and healthy snacks are also supplied.

MOITI to provide grants to small businesses through the State Trade and Export Promotion (STEP) grant program for the purpose of increasing exports

The Massachusetts Office of International Trade and Investment (MOITI), in collaboration with the Massachusetts Small Business Development Center (MSBDC) and the Massachusetts Export Center (MEC), recently launched the Massachusetts State Trade and Export Promotion (STEP) Grant Program through a grant from the United States Small Business Administration (SBA). The STEP grant program offers financial assistance to eligible Massachusetts small businesses seeking new and increased export sales of their goods and services. The grant program is intended to help offset international business development and related marketing costs for small businesses.

Grants under the STEP Program will be capped at $10,000 per business to reimburse for costs associated with projects, activities or services undertaken during the period March 1, 2012 to September 29, 2012. Each grant recipient will be required to provide a match to cover 25% of the total approved cost for any project, activity or service.

MOITI will accept submissions for consideration during the following two application periods:

(1) March 1 - April 2, 2012

(2) April 16 - May 15, 2012

Applicants not accepted in the first application period may reapply in the second period.

To apply for the STEP program, companies or firms must meet the U.S. Small Business Administration definition of small business.

Webinar Registration

Are you a veteran or know someone who is?

Veterans are known for their strong discipline, desire to win and ability to take control and follow through on their goals.  Learn from Veterans who achieved entrepreneurial success by buying a business, starting a business or buying a franchise.  We will also hear from a Franchisor who will announce a special program to give away a franchise to one lucky Veteran and will explain how you can enter to win!

These Veterans will share their business ownership experiences including:
-  How they funded their business and other financial considerations
-  How they overcame challenges in starting their business
-  What helped them to determine the "right" business

Want to learn more?  Join us and bring your questions for the panel.  Whether you are just starting to consider self-employment or actively pursuing opportunities, you won't want to miss this valuable glimpse into the lives of Veterans who have begun building their own American Dream.

About The 2012 Run-Walk to Home Base
Presented by New Balance
Run-Walk across home plate...
Ever dream about crossing home plate at Fenway Park as the crowd cheers you on?Want to be part of an exciting fundraising event that helps provide much needed services to local veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan?

We have an event for you!

The 2012 Run-Walk to Home Base presented by New Balance is a 9K fundraising Run scheduled for Sunday, May 20th, 2012. This year, we also added an option of a 3 mile fundraising Walk too!

The two options allow you to Run or Walk through scenic Boston, ending with an unforgettable experience of crossing “home base” (plate) at historic Fenway Park. Friends and family can cheer you on from the stands at Fenway, with food, entertainment and family fun activities in the concourses of America’s Most Beloved Ballpark.

This year, for the first time, the event is open to children age 6 to 15 to enter the Walk portion of the event for just $125 when accompanied a registered adult fundraising walker who has committed to the $1000 fundraising fee along with required parental waivers. Those 16 and over can enter either the walk or run portion of the event with the $1000 fundraising commitment.  For more details see Run-Walk requirements.

The 2012 Run-Walk to Home Base Presented by New Balance honors heroic veterans and raises much needed funds for the Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base Program.
Funds raised will provide clinical care for veterans with combat stress or traumatic brain injury; support services and counseling for wounded vets families; research into improving treatments and preventing these devastating injuries that effect as many as 30% of troops returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan; and community education for health care providers, clergy and the public.Only a total of 4,000 participants - or approximately 2,500 runners and another 1,500 walkers can participate in this fundraiser, so register now and become an MVP on the Home Base team! Please note: As always, the date of the Run-Walk may change due to city permitting, weather or public safety considerations. If the date must be changed, we will notify you as soon as possible. Thank you for understanding.

Save the Date: 2012 Run at FENWAY

For the first time, walkers will be able to experience the thrill of crossing home
base at Fenway Park as they join runners in the Run-Walk to Home Base. The inspiring,
fan favorite event is planned for Sunday, May 20, 2012. "As our troops
come home from the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, many of us want to honor
and thank our veterans for their service and sacrifice," said Red o Home Base Adds a Walk!
Sox chairman
Tom Werner. "By adding a walk component to the 2012 Run-Walk to Home Base Presented by
New Balance, we can accommodate more adults and families who can show their support for our
service members, veterans and families, while sharing the rare experience of running through
Fenway Park, the oldest and most beloved ballpark in the country."
Registration and event information for the 2012
Run-Walk to Home Base Presented by New Balance

Hello, I'm Mark Baird and I founded Hire Patriots. My wife and I are 'helpers.' We are concerned about meeting the practical needs of our US veterans veterans and their families. We began a job board for local residents to post chores that they need help with. It has been very successful. Thousands of local US Military and veterans partially or entirely support themselves from our website. We are looking for others near US Military bases who would also like to have a HirePatriots.com website for their location. We also hold welcome home parties, military marriage retreats, job fairs and create military family gardens.
