Sgt Joel Tavera gets new home in Tampa, Florida
As mentioned in an earlier blog, I wanted to write more about Sgt Joel Tavera and his new home which is being built in Tampa.

As mentioned in an earlier blog, I wanted to write more about Sgt Joel Tavera and his new home which is being built in Tampa. We intend to write about his home, from the groundbreaking ceremony which will occur next week to the day that he accepts the keys and walks through the front door. We will provide you with good video as well to keep you informed.
At 19 years old, Joel Tavera was not your average soldier. Today at 23, SGT Joel Tavera is not your average veteran. Having lost sight in both eyes, his right leg, four fingers on his left hand, suffered from very serious head trauma and critical burns to most of his body, Tavera remains a shining light to those around him. Sgt Tavera is an American hero, not just for what he has been through, but for being the person that he is today. His smile alone is just simply priceless.
His world changed in March of 2008 when his Humvee was hit by five rockets. The blasts killed three men. Joel was thought to be dead as well. His parents, Jose and Maritza, have been told that their son is the second most severely injured Army soldier to survive since the war in Iraq began.
William Ryan Homes in partnership with Building Homes for Heroes, is leading the effort to build a new home for Sgt. Joel Tavera and his family. Building Homes for Heroes is a nonprofit organization that supports the needs of severely wounded or disabled veterans and their families through building mortgage free homes. The Tavera family will soon be the recipient of a new specially designed Tampa Bay home. Please help us honor Sgt Tavera by joining us at the events below or donate online at www.buildinghomesforheroes.org.
