My Life Serving US Veterans

Posted by on in General
My life has been spent serving the men and women who serve in the US military. I take no pride in doing so.  It is just the proper and the right road for me to take. -- They deserve it: Simple as that. – But it is getting harder to do. The glow of patriotism  has all but disappeared since 9/11. I started being involved in my Twenties, a few years after being listed 4-F in the US Marines Corps, when they discovered that I had a slight case of Hemophilia (a bleeding problem).  -- There were two Marine Air...

Seeking A Purpose for Life?

Posted by on in News
HirePatriots is a higher calling. Many of us have volunteered many hundreds of hours. And some of us have sacrificed everything we have in order to achieve the goal set before us: To provide an employment safety net for all US veterans, past and present. Just as someone dedicates themself to serving in a church or a synagogue or mosque, without expectation of worldly reward, we too find fulfillment in service, not in what we receive in return. – My wife and I have given a large portion of our lives to causes, community and Christian service. -- Children, US veterans,...

Increase in G.I. Bill Benefits Reported

Posted by on in News
The military portal for Monster.com sent out an email today claiming that the Montgomery G.I. Bill has been increased from $47,556 worth of education benefits to $56,304. But no link to a larger article, source, or anything to collaborate that claim was provided. – It looked more like a marketing ploy to promote their sponsors. There are many fine schools for our US veterans to attend. But as always, there are also schools that are not. And V.A. approved school should be able to have you attend without any tuition costs for you. – Here is a link to three...

US Veteran Funerals Axed in Budget Cuts

Major federal budget cuts have been announced for Army National Guard Military Funeral Honors programs in all 50 states effective 10/1/12 for fiscal year 2013. 29% cut in operating funds. 33% cut in personnel.  This on the heels of previous annual budget cuts that have already impacted Military Funeral Honors programs over the last number of years. Important! Http vs. Https

Posted by on in News
What is the difference between http and https?  I don't know how many of you are aware of this difference, but it is worth sending to any who do not.   The main difference between http:// and https:// is security.  It's all  about keeping you secure.   HTTP stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol.          The S (big surprise) stands for "Secure."   If you visit awebsite or web page, and look at the address in the web browser, it will likely begin with the following: http://.  This means that the website is talking to your browser using the regular "unsecured" language.   In other words, it is possible for someone to "eavesdrop" on your computer's conversation with the website.   If you...
