TROOPS
In eight years as a Marine infantryman, I have seen three deployments to Iraq , countless work-ups and many a hard day. However, my hardest day hit square in my life on April 11, 2005. That was the day I decided to play catch with a 122mm mortar. As I came to, I knew my life in the Corps was over and never the same. While home, a friend of mine suggested HireMarines.com as a way to find work. Not only have I found incredible jobs, but I have met amazing people, like Ann the woman whose yard work I did so well, she paid more than first agreed upon and asked me back three times. The ability to find work, even as I recover, has shown me the grace of others and reminded me that in the midst of all, people still love their Marines.
However, the most important thing that I have learned, is ability. Being injured completely changed who I am and how I interact as a person. It took away being a Marine daily. Working jobs I located on HireMarines.com has allowed me to build confidence, share my story, and find a nitch; things that I thought I had lost when I lost the Corps as my daily home. My hope is that whoever logs onto HireMarines.com has the same feeling of welcoming, open arms that I had.
The attached photo is my youngest daughter...thank you for helping me keep her life wonderful. The second photo is me squeezed into my uniform, one last time.

Good Morning...
I just wanted to thank you for such a wonderful site. My husband just
recently decided not to re-enlist in the Marines after being deployed to
Iraq twice and had been overwhelmed with the need to work while waiting for
a permanent job to come through. We just recently had a new baby and I
didn't think people realized how difficult it is to live on a Marines pay
and even more difficult when he's in the transitioning stage. We were
recently given your sites name from a family member and are very excited to
see that there are things for him to do in the meantime. Thank you for
setting this up, it's a wonderful idea, and I personally know many honorable
young men that will take advantage of it. The decision for him to not
re-enlist was difficult, as he loved his job, but I think that this gives
him some faith that things will be okay until he settles into something
permanent. Thank you again.

I am about 18 months from retiring, I am currently station at MCAS, Yuma , AZ , I am a Preventive Medicine Technician working at the Branch Medical Clinic.
I just find out about this site and I already know that is going to be one of the sources for me to look for a Job locally or somewhere else, I just want to thank you for this service that you are providing to help those that are retired as well as the ones like me about to retired.

To the Bairds—
I just wanted to drop a note reiterating what fine Americans you are! I’m hoping that I’m only one of many that has expressed to you how refreshing it is to see the public compassionately embracing their armed forces--quite the contrast to some of the stories in the media. Our junior Marines are indeed underpaid for what they volunteer to do, and that can lead to some hard financial times. What a great way for you to support them and the nation—I can but imagine how appreciative all of them are. As I move on to Camp Pendleton this fall, I am delighted to know that people such as you comprise the local community. You have truly shown a spirit of “Semper Fidelis,” being always faithful to those who protect this nation.
With the utmost of respect and thanks,

Im a former U.S. Marine. I heard about your site last night on the ch 4
news. I live here in the O.C., I just want to thank you for this. If I
were still active duty and needed some extra cash this is where I would
be every weekend looking for the odd job. I have registered @ your site
and will be posting a painting job @ my home soon. Thank you again and

Hello, My name is Sgt L. and I just wanted to say that your site is great. I am a Career Retention Specialist and I have morning meetings every Tuesday. I have been getting the word out about your site. I just wanted to thank you both for your dedication towards Marines and their families. Also I have applied for a couple of jobs on your site myself. Hope to hear some good news from them. Thanks again.
Sincerely,
Sgt L/USMC

I visited your website today, was recommended by my husband’s friend. I just want to take the time to let you know how much we appreciate that website. Many times Marine families, especially young marine families find themselves in a bind for money and its nice to know that someone out there is watching out for us. I’m completely overwhelmed to see how much this community gives back to their military and I am proud to be living in Oceanside.
Thank you for your support!!!

We just found your site! Good work! This is awesome! I own an accounting firm in Carlsbad. My husband just retired from the USMC in November.
We posted a job, but I am also interested in supporting your site with some advertising. Please email the info!
Thanks!

I am a former Marine living in San Clemente and saw your ad in the The Scout. I just visited your website and think it is fantastic. I will pass the info on to everyone I know who is in need of some kind of help. Thanks for your support.

Hi,
Although I do not live in Camp Pendleton (we're on Recruiting duty and stationed in Carpentersville , IL ) if this were around when we were in Miramar my hubby would have signed up!! At the time we were struggling hard and any little extra money would have helped enormously.
I just want to THANK YOU for thinking of this brilliant idea and making it come to fruition!!! Your site is beautiful and refined but your hearts are pure gold!!!
Best Wishes,

Just wanted to say Thank You for putting together a wonderful site where Marines like myself can search for some extra income. I had a group of students and parents do a walk through of my workspace yesterday and I was told about this site. It is such a wonderful idea, and it’s a great way the local community can give back to the Marines who sacrifice so much to serve. It is people like you, who make Marines like myself want to serve. Just a quick note to say Thank You and God Bless.

Good Morning,
Thank you for what you do. I heard about this site from the Chamber of Commerce and I thought I would look into it. I am a Cpl in the Marines and I was looking for an extra job and lending a helping hand. I have just been blessed with a newborn (9 weeks) and now it is getting tough financially on myself and my wife. If there is anything that I can assist you with please let me know. Thank you for your time and your help.

I am mother of two active duty marines One in Iraq and the other in Okinawa . I want to thank you for your website, it touched my heart. I will make sure I pass it along
Thank you,

Hi.
I recently came across your website. I was also a Marine who had to make ends meet with a family of 3. A Sergeant stationed in Camp Pendleton . I worked for as a television repairman in Oceanside for part time money. At that time I earned 100 dollars for 2 days work. I wish I could have spent it with my family instead. Your website allows Marines to earn that extraa cash for milk or gas money in a shorter period of time. I will pass this along.
Thanks.
Isaac

Just a quick note to tell you THANK YOU from a Marine's wife. My husband has been in a long time (over 17 years), and I have a good job, but I know so many, many families that can use the help. These are men and women who are very proud and won't take what they consider to be a "handout" but are more than willing to work hard for the money. THANK YOU so very much. I have already put the word out with the families that I know. I will also be speaking with my own boss on Monday regarding your website because we also have a job position to fill.
THANK YOU!!
Sincerely,
Elaine ( Camp Pendleton )

The Website is working great and all Marines I have came into contact with love it. I have called several jobs that were posted days ago and actually had a Marine come out and work, but for whatever reason the Marine didn't like the work or it was to far of a drive. My experience with that has been the people posting the job still want a Marine to work for them even though the job posting was weeks ago. I'm currently working at a place doing yard work that someone landed the job before me but the Marine could only work about 2 hours a week and the guy giving the work wanted more. Now im this guys permanent yard work man giving him 6 hours a week.
Marines love the site and always are saying finally someone is doing something for us. I think for one time jobs people should erase the posting but for something like yard work I pretty much think that is a lifetime project and older people always need the assistance/help. I get nothing but good feedback on how great the site is. I have work with several people and they have been great. I think this older couple that I'm doing work for has adopted me as there grandson :). They are very kind. I will continue to think of ways to better the system but as its going now it cant be beat.
Sgt Brian

Mark, from your intelligent idea of a website I have not only made good money I have met very nice people that really care about what we as Marines do. Every Job that I did so far they have given me more money than worked. I will hold off in scheduling anymore jobs so we can meet any day after Saturday. If for some odd reason that someone cancels between now and Saturday I will inform you and maybe your schedule will be open. I thank you for the opportunity to work for you as you wont be disappointed. I know what the customer wants and that's what I give them. I'm very friendly and a very hard worker. I take great pride in my work and I'm very loyal to my boss. I hope we can meet real soon.
Thank you,
Sgt L / USMC

Thank you so, so much for your website! I am a Marine wife and we were struggling; to say the very least. I got my present job from your website, and its been amazing! The job is pretty much my dream job, it pays well, will help us transition out of the Corps. in 6 months, and I plan to stay with it for at least 4 years. Thank you so much!! Please keep up the good work!
Sincerely,
Megan

I saw a bumper sticker on a car while I was working a fast food job, and I love the idea!!! Are you thinking about making this a National campaign??? If so, I am moving back to Ohio within the month and on my way home I could post your bumper stickers and signs where along my way.

Good Afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Baird,

This is really a great service for everybody!!!

Good Evening to you. My name is Joanne, my husband Charles just retired AD
USMC this last Saturday and I am A USNR-Seabee. Our son told us of your
website and we checked it out. I think it is a wonderful idea and folks
should be appreciative of it's services, however I have one point you may
want to be conscious of. As a female I come across discrimination,
particularly more so for my background in construction and in Law
Enforcement. I have been looking for odd jobs for myself as I finish my
semester of school and then for my husband as he transitions after 22 years.
Although one has no control over who posts and the jobs offered, it is much
to my dismay that the majority are posts from men who do not consider
females for work. These folks need to realize that women are just as
capable, and deserve to be treated with respect -even over the telephone.
Again realizing that society has its prejudices, do hope that females in the
service of our country are not overlooked as valuable employees, whether for one day or a career. Thank you for concern for those of us in service.
Joanne N
I would like to thank you and your family for putting together this web-site, I check it everyday!

I am a college student and a proud spouse of a Marine in Iraq right now and saw your spot on TV and although I haven't found the job for myself at this time I think what you are doing is GREAT!!! Thank you so much and I plan on telling all the wives I know. Keep up the good work.

Dear Mr. Baird,
This weekend I was at the movie theater in downtown Oceanside and as I
was waiting for my wife to come out of the restroom I notice a table that
has a 'bumpersticker' that read www.hiremarines.com. As a frequent 2nd job
seeker and avid internet surfer I thought I'd right down the address, so I
check it out when I got home. I was suprised to find what I did. It's an
amazing site and hope its has help others in need wheather its in need of a
helping hand or a 2nd job or new job if they are getting out. None the less
I want to say that your site is a great idea and would like to help you
promote it. Before I went to the theater this weekend I had never heard of
it. With your permision I'ld like to help by using your logo and address in
a flyer that I'ld spend my own time distributing, to spead the word because
I believe this is such a great idea. Attached is a sample copy of the flyer.
Thank you for your support.

Mark and Tori Baird,
Good afternoon,
I am a 20 year active duty Navy man from San Diego . I would like to express my thanks for setting up this web site and seeing it through to success.
I enjoyed the better part of 16 years as an enlisted sailor prior to commissioning. Certainly there was more than one time where I could have used a quick part time job to make ends meet. And I know that hasn't changed much...the pay for service to the country isn't all that rewarding for an E-5 and below with a family.
I hope that this continues with great success and if you ever need assistance in promoting the idea, or making it available for Sailors in the San Diego area, please call.
Very respectfully,
Dan S

RESIDENTS/ BUSINESSES
We have had two Camp Pendleton marines working for us at our home for the last 5 weeks.
We have owned our own service businesses for over 20 years.
If we could have had employees like these two men at our different businesses, we would have been thrilled.
Our point is: We ARE THRILLED we these two service men.
They show up on time. They speak perfect English. They are hard-working, they are CLEAN and they clean up after each work period.
They are happy and appreciative of the opportunity!
They gladly work for us for $8.00 an hour- doing everything. Weeding, planting, painting, staining, electrical work etc.
They don't blast rap music and they DON'T WASTE TIME. They are here to do a job-and that is what they do.
They arrive on time- they do their job- and they leave. We don't worry about things going missing- or being broken.
My husband and I have had no sons, however, if we could have- nothing would have made us prouder then two fine young men such as these.
THANK YOU- for coming up with this idea- and your websites. We tell everyone we know. These guys are going to be kept as busy as they'd like!
Sincerely;
Ron & Dee N.

We've hired help several times through your site, it has been an excellent resource, and we've been thrilled with the guys we've hired.
It's a good thing you're doing…
Thanks for doing it.
Best,
Megan & Jeff

Good morning!
Thanks for putting the ad on your website for me. A young Marine
called this morning and will be here tomorrow! He was the first call.
So, please remove the ad-- and thank you so much again.
What a wonderful program. It should be in the headlines of all
newspapers and on TV.

Just wanted to let you know how thrilled I am that you have created
this fabulous resource to connect people like me, an older single
woman, to able Marines who are willing to do small jobs (and big
jobs) that are hard for me to do. Harold came and painted the
inside of my garage, put up a curtain rod and is coming back to put
in window locks and hang closet doors for me. He said he'd also
remove a little tree in my front yard and do some other yard work.
Thank you so much for making this web site available. It is very
heartening to be able to help the Marines, while at the same time
they are helping me! I'm telling all my senior friends about this.

Hi Mark and Victoria, Just saw the article about your enterprise of the front page of NC times. Great PR. Also wanted to let you know that the job I posted was quickly filled by two nice young guys (they are all nice aren't they) and after three evenings at our house they did all the tasks we asked for and were unfailingly pleasant and willing. Now I am trying to decide whether to contact them again or give someone else an opportunity for any future jobs.
We were very satisfied.

What a great site. Thank you it's a great resource! I just posted a job for a sitter for my dad. Hopefully I will get a nice marine or spouse to sit with him until I get home from work in the evenings.

Mark / Tori,
There are many things that would benefit all that participate in the site.
I foresee the site becoming a regular tool for Marines to better supplement
their incomes.

I want to thank you for this great opportunity. I just returned from Interviewing a great young Marine who will be perfect to allow me to open my Boys & Girls Club on weekends to get more youth off the street.
Thank you so much for this site!

This site is a wonderful idea. My husband and I live in R. H. Senior Homes. We have a
number of residents here in need of part time help from time to time. The need varies from gardening, home repairs, painting, running errands, someone to take them grocery shopping or appointments to doctors, etc. Individuals to help out in the home - cleaning, making meals, etc. We have a number of residents here who are retired Marines and therefore would like to support other Marines who would like extra part time work. -- Anyway, think you are doing a terrific job and we will let residents of our community know about your service.

Mark and Tori,
I wrote you months back saying thank you for your site and now am writing to tell you about the great Marines that helped me last weekend.
I had to move and two Marines named Zach (Sgt) and Owen (Cpl) came to my rescue. They were very professional and hard working, as I knew they would be. I live in San Clemente so it was a decent drive for them and they pulled through tremendously. I could not have done it without them.
I was thinking, if it wasn't too difficult, to have a thank you section where "employer" posts feedback about their interactions. Just food for thought. I would have definately taken the time to thank those guys in words.
Thanks again.

I just wanted to thank you so very much for starting this wonderful program!!
I listed a job this morning and have received so many offers that I actually had to apoligize for not being able to hire them all!! I hired 2 different guys and they were amazing workers!! They came prepared to work and they didn't stop till the job was done!! We are very, very pleased with the whole experience and I wouldn't hesitate to use your service again and again.
I have emailed everybody I know and have recommended your website to them all.
We all talk about wanting to do something for our wonderful troops and now we feel we have made a difference.

Hi -- Just wanted to let you know we had a great and and quick respone to our posting for ranch work -- keep up the good work! This is a much appreciated and very helpful site. I would far prefer to hire one of our local servicemen/women in need as opposed to working with casual day labor who speak limited English and have no transportation (I know this doesn't sound very politically correct, it's just the way I feel).
thanks again,

It has been said that all it takes to change the world is an idea and the desire to change it. I can not express my appreciation to you for giving small business like myself the ability to hire the occassional helper while helping others to help themselves.
A great idea that will undoubtedly do very well in the future. I will be sure to post my small and casual jobs as the need arises in the future!

I have another one coming today at 3 and he has worked for me before, works nearby, and altho he has no talent, I like "educating" him as I can do a lot of things, I just am OLD now and have a bad back and appreciate help. He is very nice, very black, age 21 and appreciates earning $10 an hour and getting off the base. I am very good to them and give them food, drinks and this one, I gave him a lot of cuttings from some succulents in my yard when he helped with some yard work and put them in a box for him to mail to his mother on the way home. He loved it .. several varieties .. said his mother loved it.
He's from Indianapolis so me made me a Colt fan before the playoffs so that was really exciting, but I knew he wouldn't be sober for days and says, and finally he called me to work again. I trust him and actually most of them I do trust, but there have been incidents .......... and he doesn't smoke which is huge plus and we talk about the war and Bush and politics ........... he is very into physical fitness so he is awesome about moving things ..

You guys are great!
I just heard about your site on Rick Roberts show and told all my neighbors. What a great idea (wish I’d had it) you had! God bless you for taking the time and effort to do this. I’ve been trying to think how to help those great kids and now I can!
Thanks for all you do.

Hi,
I heard about your website on the Rick Roberts show. My fiancé and I are homeowners in Clairemont. We are looking to hire someone to finish a bathroom we just had remodeled on out shoestring budget. This job would include wallboard repair and painting. We don't have the money to hire a "professional." I noticed on your job posting page that it asks for a "company name." Is this website only for companies? Or can someone like myself post a job? My fiancé is disabled so he cannot do manual labor types of jobs. Also I noticed that your website mentioned specifically North County . So before I posted this, I wanted to check whether or not it was feasible for me to do so. Thank you.
p.s. I think this is a fabulous idea and hope it works out for everyone involved.
Sincerely,
Liz N

I'm a senior citizen widow of a retired sailor, and I love my military. I often need help with my home maintenance (from getting on a ladder to change a light bulb, through yard work, carpentry, electrical, my computer, etc). I have a heck of a time getting dependable English-speaking workers to even show up for the agreed appointment.
Thanks for your help.

I like your Idea to help our troops. I own a small business and also need physical labor help from time to time. When my daughter was in high school, I would use her friends to help, but they all have their own life's now and it is harder for me to find strong young people to help out.
I was a former Navy Man myself, so I would like to see this expanded for all our local Military people. I first heard of your site this past weekend listening to a repeat of the Rick Roberts Radio show.
I would like to have an "email me" box added to the forms as well. That would make it easier for some of the troops to contact us. I like to use this avenue as well, as I can't always take calls.
Thanks for supporting our Troops

Hi there,
Just want to tell you I posted my 1 day job on your site yesterday afternoon
And had my 1st response within an hour and 3 more calls within 24 hours!
This is great. I appreciate the timeliness and feeling of trust hiring a Marine!
Margriet A.
Mark and Toni,
Just to let you know that over the past 3 months I have hired 5
different marines for occasional work. 4 of the 5 were superb! One
turned out to be "less than interested."
Wonderful bulletin board service for all!
Andy Rice

Hi Rick,
I wanted to share a great experience I had after you mentioned the www.hiremarines.com website a month or so ago. Rather than find cheap labor with questionable immigration status, we went to the website, posted a painting job at $12 per hour, and had 8 responses in the first day! Peter Green was chosen to do our paint job, he worked diligently and precisely this weekend, and we could not have been happier.
It is a good feeling to both help our servicemen directly by providing extra work for them, and knowing that one less illegal alien was hired this weekend. Let your listeners know, this service works, and works well for both you and your Marine!
Michael B

This is awesome!! It was cool to see you on the NEWS a few weeks ago; good job! My husband did hire a lady from HireMarines.com. She is a wonderful asset. Thank you for letting me know and I will pass this on to my HR department.

Office of Senator Bill Morrow

I just wanted to tell you that we used a Cpl. Daniel F, last weekend. We found him to be most courteous,
capable, and a VERY nice young man. I have told ALL my friends about your service, and they have told all of
theirs...what a GREAT idea! Keep up the good work.

Mark and Tori Baird,
Hi,
Just wanted to let you know how thrilled I am that you have created
this fabulous resource to connect people like me, an older single
woman, to able Marines who are willing to do small jobs (and big
jobs) that are hard for me to do.
